In my last post about Oxford, I hinted at how great the Ashmolean Museum is. I now present a variety of images to further portray its greatness.
Its like if the V&A and British Museum had a beautiful, perfectly formed baby child. Its quiet, still, and like a labyrinth of wonders that keeps on going. It just keeps on going! You think well, that must be everything I’ll have a cup of tea in the cafe –
But you haven’t even hit Egypt yet!
I love the lay out, with glass corridors so you can see right through to other portions of the museum.
The Cast Gallery is a dream, with turquoise walls perfectly contrasting the white plaster casts that stand against it. (I do famously love a cast gallery)
I stared at this one for a long while. It made me feel strong.
These details drive me crazy. I could live in this room. Perfection.
Then just when you think it is all sculpture and ancient worldy stuff, there are painting galleries, with replica living spaces, dark wood and delicious wall papers.
It’s a new fave.
